Who Won The ‘Other’ Season Awards?

June 7 - Last night saw the awarding of all the season trophies for various achievement in the Wingless Sprints' first season of racing W.A. But the night also saw recognition for the often lighter side of racing. So, just who were the recipients of the awards not everyone is quite as keen to win?

Once the official proceedings were complete, Greg took centre stage and gave out some special ‘awards’ of his own, retaining the sense of fun that has generally been the over riding spirit of this class in it’s rookie year.

Up for special recognition, Trevor Jolly accepted on behalf of Allan Nash a toy kangaroo. Something about being keen on starts apparently.

Des Nash also made his way forward. The sight of Des heading towards your pit at speed can only mean one thing on race night, and it usually isn’t good news. Even if Greg has already made you aware of an indiscretion, a visit from Des may still be on the way, just to make sure you know the Wingless Sprint Police are not happy with your ways. Well, Des now has a badge just so on the off chance he isn’t immediately recognised, there can now be no confusion.

Merv Lowther was also on the hitlist. Merv has made a significant commitment to running the winter series, with none other than Greg as crew chief. It seems there may be one or two side bets hinging on Merv’s winter efforts, and Greg made sure no stone was left unturned in Merv’s ability to practice, giving him a toy steering wheel, complete with noises one hopes we never hear a Wingless Sprint make.

Last but not least, our state champion had one more date with the front of the room. Out rolled the new W.A #1, complete with Motorworld signage. Marshall’s final award for the night came in the form of the Motorworld lawnmower, in honour of Marshall’s occasional return to his solo riding roots and love of the errmmm, let’s call it pole line.
