Matthew Iwanow Steals the Win at the Motorplex Sprintcar Muster

Sprintcar Muster 3 January 2015
The afternoon started with a bit of confusion with a large amount of late nominations for the meeting causing the grid draws to be modified. The Motorplex was not impressed with this and the confusion it caused, however from the clubs perspective it’s understandable how this happened with the nomination closing date being 18 days prior to the meeting.
With the large amount of cars and late nominations we saw 14 cars go on track with the 410 Sprintcars for engine starts and wheel packing. The cars stayed out on track for their first heat.
Heat 1
‪#‎A1‬ Daniel Hartigan starting out of position 10 took out heat 1 over
#18 Tyson Bryden with #14 Matt “Superman” Vincent still in great form with another top 3 finish. ‪#‎WA1‬ Dean Gittos went to the infield at lap 6 with fuel issues. Best lap went to #A1 Daniel Hartigan on lap 6 with a time of 18.293 with a speed of 98.398 km/h.
Heat 2
Heat 2 saw an action packed heat. #96 Brad Fitzgerald has had a run of bad luck this season but it seems to be turning the corner tonight, Fitzi started off pole and was leading the race until a crash between #WA1 Dean “Iceman” Gittos and #42 Mitchell White caused a single file restart. The race got underway with Fitzi and Coleman having a grand battle for first position, Coleman after starting out of P11 was biting at Fitzi heels for a couple of laps when another bingle between #67 Nick “Hillbilly” Bishop and #84 Daran Humfrey saw the race declared. Fitzi fought hard to get his first heat win over #24 Daniel Coleman and a triumphant return to Wingless Sprints #44 Phil Moylan coming home third, congratulations Phil on a great return.
Best lap went to #24 Daniel Coleman on lap 4 with a time of 18.530 with a speed of 97.14 km/h.
Heat 3
Heat 3 saw 13 cars start, #42 Mitchell White couldn’t get his car ready to join the heat. #A1 Daniel Hartigan started off pole, then 3 laps into the race #21 Jason Jones caused a yellow light stoppage when he spun out in turn three, #39 Travis Southwell had nowhere to go and spins out as well, then #91 Melissa “Naggers” Hartigan decided to join the Jones/Southwell party on pits bend. #17 Brad Taylor with car troubles also parked on the grass. #A1 Daniel Hartigan led them away for a short time until he was passed by #14 Vincent. Shortly after #A1 Hartigan also headed for the infield with engine problems. #14 Matt “Superman” Vincent took the win, which saw #24 Coleman after successfully passing #3 Matt Iwanow leapfrog into second. Unfortunately the stewards deemed #14 Vincent passed #A1 Hartigan under the restart cone and got relegated to third.
Final order was #24 Coleman first, #3 Iwanow second and #14 Vincent third.
Best lap went to #24 Daniel Coleman on lap 7 with a time of 17.971with a speed of 100.161 km/h.
Feature Race
A 15 lap feature race started at 9.05. Unfortunately 2 cars didn’t get onto the track for the feature race #WA1 Dean “Iceman” Gittos and #67 Nick “Hillbilly” Bishop.
Well done to #39 Southwell for getting his car back on the track for the feature race. #24 Daniel Coleman with 2 of the quickest lap times for the night started from pole with #96 Brad “Fitzi” Fitzgerald starting from position 2. On a slick track with some hard charging through the field from #57 Beard who started out of position 8 to finish third and #17 “Fireworks” Taylor who started position 14 and finished seventh. Coleman led most of the way until #3 Iwanow who had another outstanding night racing passed Coleman in lap traffic and susequently was crowned the Muster Champion 2014/15.
Outstanding efforts from both Coleman and Iwanow when you consider that they both started ROF for their heats due to late nominations to be standing on the podium at the end of the night.
The fastest lap for the feature race went to #24 Daniel Coleman on lap 5 with the best lap time being17.972 with a top speed of 100.156 km/h
Big thanks to Brad Taylor for organising the BBQ and prizes for the night and Southwell Motorsport for the use of their BBQ. Also big thanks to Phil Taylor for taking on the role as Drivers Rep.
The next meeting is at Quit Bunbury Speedway on the 17 January with nominations closing on 12 January, please be aware you need to nominate DIRECTLY to Bunbury Speedway.
