Tom “Buddah” Payet slides his way to victory at WSS.

WSS MOTORPLEX 7 FEBRUARY 2015
A scorching hot day greeted the teams that participated in the Super Saturday meeting for the World Series Sprintcars first round in Perth.
A field of 15 cars nominated for the event.
HEAT 1
#46 Mitchell “Dickie nee” Wormall, back from his duties driving over the East Coast started heat one on pole with
#88 Brendan Raynor on his outside. It was a greasy track and the drivers fought hard to get grip and car speed. #48 Steve Bergin mastered it better than most quickly moving up on Wormall who had sped away from the field. It was a great battle with both drivers matching each other for car speed for a couple of laps before Bergin managed to get good drive and made the pass and was never headed after that racing away for the win. Heat one results were #48 Bergin first followed by #46 Wormall,
#39 Southwell.
HEAT TWO
Heat Two was an awesome race track after the sprintcars had done one round of heats. #21 Jason "Woody" Jones started pole with the very fast #24 Daniel Coleman on the outside. Coleman showed just how fast he is firing the #24 QT off the start line with #3 Matt Iwanow following him through. #21 Jason "Woody" Jones tried valiantly to keep up with the leaders while having a great battle with #11 Steve “Bubble” Rice for most of the race. And that's how they finished, #24 Coleman first, #3 Iwanow second and
#21 Jones third.
HEAT THREE
Heat three saw #96 Brad “Fitzi” Fitzgerald line up on pole with
#23 Tom “Buddah” Payet on his outside. After a few laps in
#21 Jason "Woody" Jones rode the wheel of #14 Matt Vincent coming out of turn two spearing him into the back straight wall and rolling, bringing on the only red light stoppage for the night. The boys continued to the chequers after restarting with #23 Payet too strong taking the win from #17 Brad Taylor and #24 Daniel Coleman who came from the back of the pack.
FEATURE
Feature race time and #24 Daniel Coleman highest point scorer started pole from #23 Payet on his outside with #48 Bergin and #3 Iwanow on the second row. The pace was a hot from the start with Coleman taking the early lead and Payet settling into second. What started out as a normal feature took a turn when Payet took it up to Coleman and engaged a brilliant tug of war out front, trading the lead many times for many laps. It was brilliant to watch and would go on to earn praise from many spectators as one of the best wingless races we have seen. Payet was desperate in his slide job on Coleman and once out in front by a car length held on to finish in front, with Coleman filling the second place on the podium followed by Bergin who had a great night in the #48 machine, dedicating his successful night to his late father.
All drivers should be proud of the way they raced and the spectacle they put on for the huge crowd that was in attendance.
Special mention to Lannye for his great job on cooking the BBQ and Phil Taylor for once again taking on the role of drivers rep.
Jason Jones would also like to thank all the other drivers and crew for their endeavours to try and get the #21 J&J repaired for the feature race.
All in all a great meeting and well done. Good luck to the drivers heading down to the midweek WSS meeting at Bunbury and those drivers and teams who are going over to Adelaide to contest this years Australian Title.
