Dean Gittos Dominant at Moora

Keenquip Country Series Moora Round 29 November 2014.

The day started early for a lot of drivers and crews to get to Moora for a big night of racing.
Once there all the drivers went for a walk around the track as it was the first time the wingless sprints club had been invited to compete at Moora. The club would like to thank Merv Lowther for all his hard work and dedication to make this race meeting to happen.

The drivers appeared keen to get a chance to do wheel packing and hot laps prior to the first heat to see what the track had to offer.

Then it was down to racing, the first heat started with a BANG when #96 Brad Fitzgerald and #46 Mitchell Wormall decided to get up close and personal with Brad coming off second best and his night was over before it begun.
#91 Melissa Hartigan got a surprise with her bonnet dislodging impairing her view and having to go to the infield. The first heat went to #84 Daran Humphry with #17 Brad Taylor coming in second and taking third was #39 Travis Southwell, this was Travis’s first meeting back after a big dump at the first meeting of the season which saw his car taken back to a bare chassis for a complete rebuild.

The second heat was run with no incidents. First went to #57 Kyle Beard second was #14 Matt Vincent and  #A1 Daniel Hartigan got third.

Throughout the night the drivers had to be on their game to navigate around the track with turn 2 having large ruts as well as between turn 3 and 4, this kept them alert.

An eventful third heat saw #A1 Daniel Hartigan, #11 Steve Rice and #39 Travis Southwell coming together in turn 4 with Travis having to go to the infield with damage and under the clubs new rule (if you are the primary cause of another car being forced to go to the infield you also join them) Steve Rice was told to park his car.
The place gets for heat three went to #3 Matt Iwanow, second #21 Jason Jones and for third and his first meeting for the season #97 Russell Seery.

Heat 4 saw some good racing with #18 Tyson Bryden taking home first,  #WA1 Dean Gittos with second and #78 Matty Fellows nabbing third.

Then it came to the Dashes to see where everybody would start the feature race, the bottom half of the grid was set in stone with the top half seeing some close racing.
In the A Dash for the inside line of the feature there was #57 Kyle Beard, #84 Daran Humphry, #WA1 Dean Gittos, #14 Matt Vincent and to round out the dash #78 Matty Fellows. The dash finished with #WA1 Dean Gittos taking pole for the feature.
The B Dash for the outside line for the feature race went like this
#18 Tyson Bryden, #3 Matt Iwanow, #21 Jason Jones, #17 Brad Taylor and rounding out the B Dash was #97 Russell Seery. Again with some very close racing #18 Tyson Bryden took position 2 in the feature race.

The feature race started with #WA1 Dean Gittos taking the lead with #18 Tyson Bryden hot on his tail. It was outstanding racing to watch. Lap 14 was the only stoppage in the 20 lap feature race after Daran Humphrey and Brad Taylor came together. After the drivers had a breather for a couple of minutes to regroup, they were off again with #WA1 Dean Gittos taking the lead once again and was never headed, taking home his first win of the season. Following behind Dean was a titanic struggle especially in the closing laps with #3 Matt Iwanow taking second place on the last turn of the race from #18 Tyson Bryden, followed by Daniel Hartigan, Jason Jones, Matt Vincent, Mitch Wormall, Matty Fellowes, Travis Southwell, Steven Rice, Brad Taylor, Russell Seary, Daran Humphrey, Kyle Beard(DNF), Chad Gordon(DNF), Mitchell White(DNS).

A great night was had by all. A very big thank you to Moora Speedway for having Wingless Sprints WA, we look forward to coming back next year.
Thanks to Keenquip and Rob Trenaman for his input on the trophies for the night.
